This week was Haute Couture week in Paris – a.k.a. ‘The week I need to avoid Twitter at all costs because I’ll be sucked into the black hole of show coverage when I need to be doing work.’
But I survived, remained relatively productive, and got to spend my Saturday morning cruising through the collections on Vogue.fr.
While I’m always a little bit thrown by looking at clothes meant for future seasons, rather than the current weather, to be checking out the Fall-Winter collections while sitting in a sweltering room with a fan pointed directly at me and a rather large iced coffee at hand was surreal. Valentino’s camel (cashmere?) dresses and coats were gorgeous, but even thinking about wearing one of them left me feeling the onset of heat stroke.
Of all of the shows, it was Elie Saab’s that stood out as the strongest. I loved the detailing and the restraint used in the embellishment – the best pieces for me were the ones where the beading and the fabric balanced each other to create a look that was both decadent and elegant.
Case in point? My Just One selection:
Did you have a favourite show from Haute Couture week? Are you drawn to the sumptuous fabrics? Or the extravagant detail work?
